Decorating Cents

Countdown begins. My mom comes to visit in 2 weeks!

She is bringing my amazing step-dad and 7-going-on-8 sister to see this crazy town I have fallen head over heels for. This is their first time in Chi-town and despite knowing they will love it no matter what, I have this innate pressure to impress. Something about being a new wife and showing off your very first home for the very first time to your very incredible mother.

My mom has always had a background static of HGTV in our home growing up. Even now my sister willingly turns to "Trading Spaces" or "Room by Room" if Nicktoons or Disney Channel do not quench her thirst for fatuous entertainment.

So with that circulating in this tireless brain of mine....

I NEED YOUR HELP!

I have this idea to redo my kitchen and really make it match summertime in Chicago.
Inspiration: Bright, happy, GREEN, Fresh, garden (but not veggie or flower theme, more herb garden). I found this Ready-to-Hang at Ikea and need some ideas to design around it.
ERIKSLUND Picture
These are photos of my kitchen right now. It was meant to reflect our love for world travel. It was a cute idea, but it just didn't come together quite right. So back to square one.
View from kitchen out into living/dining room

Coffee stand to the left, and a whole rear wall to really make it stand out.

Needs something to brighten this area up

Handmade "bon voyage" lettering, cute but gotta be replaced with something better.

Potrack made from a gate featured in our wedding!
Not going anywhere, but does need a facelift. Any ideas?

Oh yea, and it has to be on a budget. I know some of you have got some serious "Decorating Cents" out there (ah-hem Design Gal). So give me some feedback, I'm all ears! Thanks!

Like Ashley said, I love your kitchen now! I love your idea for the potrack-- and that is soo cute that it's from your wedding! Also, the bon voyage sign is darling-- and so cool that you made it yourself! Hmm... since you're going for a summertime in Chicago theme-- maybe pictures of you and Josh out in the summer? Maybe one of the rib pictures! Since ribs are made in the kitchen, er, or something? Good luck!!!

Did I mention that HOMEGOODS has four locations in Chicago? Wheaton,Schanburg, Morton Grove and Lemont!I love the photo idea, I think you should use ribbon like you did at your wedding to hang pics between your pots. Also some new kitchen towels might be fun. Happy shopping, sounds like a new adventure to me!
