Mom? What's for dinner?

I miss my mommies! All of them!

Yesterday was really difficult for me. I worked a double all day long at the restaurant making all the other moms of Chicago feel special, but I only got a few minutes to talk with my mom, step-mom and mother-in-law. And all my grandmas too! It wasn't enough (pouty face).

I was going to write some cheesy, sappy, heart-felt blog about how lucky I have to have such amazing, strong women that surround me. I was going to gush my love and affection for each one of them. I was going to express the utmost gratitude for all the wonderful things they have done for me.....

Nah.

I would rather ask a question that I believe defines my appreciation for the patience of the three mothers who nourished me daily.

What's for dinner?

Hold on. Let me to take you back and explain why my unique situation allows me to ask all three of them the same question, forcing them to bid for the privilege of curing my hunger pangs.

Josh and I are high school sweethearts who have been dating since I was 15 years old.
(Yes, believe it or not, he has been able to tolerate me for almost 9 years!) My mom, step-mom and now mother-in-law all live within a two mile radius of each other. So you can imagine the buffet of choices Josh and I had when we finally decided it was time to eat. So many incredible possibilities. Sometimes we actually called all three of them to ask, Mom? Whats for dinner? It was like looking at a menu and instead of telling the waiter what we decided we felt like, we would just drive to that house and wait for our slaving mother to serve us! (I know, lucky little brats)

But now I am sitting here planning out my evening with Josh when he gets home from work, and I have no idea what to make for him for dinner. I have searched the fridge, scoured recipes, racked my brain for creative and novel ideas and I am coming up empty handed.

Which brings me to the realization of how incredible these loving ladies are. These amazing moms perform this important task everyday without question or concern for themselves, without saying "I don't feel like cooking, make something yourself," without excuse. They nourish their families out of love and care and the selflessness it takes to put us before them. There is something special about making food for the ones you love. Day in and day out creating nutritious, delicious meals to feed a full family, and I was fortunate enough to get it times three! So thank you Lisa, Evelyn and Roberta, the names of my heroes. The women who were selfless enough to answer that burning question every night:

Mom? What's for dinner?

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. AND THANK YOU.

I love you all.

Ok, now that I've kissed a little mommy butt, do you think you could help me out with this dinner dilemma?... I mean seriously, its a lot harder than it looks! What are you making for dinner tonight?

That is SO crazy that your mom, step-mom and m-i-l all live with a two mile radius of each other! I like how you turned the post into a "what's for dinner" theme-I think you should write about some of your fav home made meals each of your moms made! I love the high school pic of you and your hubby (so cute!) and all of your wedding pictures!!! I'm sorry you had to work and didn't get a chance to talk to your moms-- hope you see them soon!
